Place Photographs

Artist Statement

The place that I chose to focus on for my project was my rural family cemetery. To some, this may seem odd but I find it as a place of comfort in peace. It is located in the middle of nowhere South Dakota and the majority of plots belong to my mom's side, the Sween family. I feel that this place shows that in death, love still exists. Even when a soul has left the earth, the love for that soul remains prominent. Whether this be those still living, or even those who are buried with their partner in death. People still leave decor of flowers, and pumpkins in this case, to show they are still loved and missed while they are lost. My senior showcase is about showing love and color in different ways and even how it affects emotion. The early morning colors also give a melancholy feeling. I believe that these photos can help capture a love that can be simply forgotten.
